Built by a Plank Road and a Rail Depot
Fraser has almost no recorded history before the 1850s. The Detroit Erin Plank Road Company began building Utica Road through the area in 1851, and the Chicago, Detroit and Canada Grand Trunk Junction Railroad's 1858 depot on what is still called Depot Road gave the crossroads its commercial center. The village incorporated in 1894, and the city followed in 1956 -- with municipal water infrastructure arriving well after that original crossroads commerce was already established.
